We’re committed to supporting grass roots initiatives that expose the next generation of budding engineers to high quality precision laser cut components.
That’s why LASER 3D was delighted to be recently involved as a main sponsor of the Pedare Christian College International Robotics Team.
FIRST® is a Robotics Competition that brings together students and mentors to build robots that perform in a competitive but gracious environment against teams from all over the world.
In building their robot and doing all the other things that go along with a FIRST® Robotics Competition team, students learn valuable life skills like teamwork, collaboration, public speaking, technical science and engineering skills, gracious professionalism, and more.
This year the competition involved 3650 teams and over 91,000 participants. This year’s game involves lifting “power cubes” (roughly 300mm not-quite-cubes weighing 1.5kg) up to a high scale (about 2.2m), dropping power cubes on a low switch, fetching and returning power cubes through a portal, and finally climbing up the scale – possibly with other robots in tow.
It’s a significant challenge with large robots (up to 54kg, 1.4m high) and stretches the skills of students (and mentors!) to new limits. The students at Pedare had 6 weeks in total to build a robot to carry out these tasks. The robot was then shipped to the competition at Olympic Park in Sydney.
